Thu 12 Oct 06, short track reps (200s)

6km today and 54km for the week so far.

36 degrees, hot northerly and sadly more than 200 fires here in Victoria, it is going to be a very unsafe summer... I think I heard that today was the hottest October day in Victoria in 93 years.

When I arrived at the track at 5pm it was VERY windy and still 34 degrees, even our warm up was hard and kept our talking to a bare minimium when into the head wind. Just Dave S & I tonight, whilst stretching we decided that there was no way we were contending with the wind and so we went for 200s, which would have a cross wind at the start and finish with a tail wind. 10x200, 34 sec with a diagonal walk across the track and restart.

Splits (recovery):
35.9 (77)
34.4 (75)
34.1 (75)
33.9 (74)
35.4 (91) drink stop
34.6 (77)
35.0 (78)
34.7 (85) drink stop
34.7 (71)
33.1 (walk 300m)

Change of shoes (trained in flats) and then three laps to cool down and can you believe it the wind died nearly completely about ten minutes after we finished....

That's the fourth law of the track (the wind always dropping after a session). 200s seem to be a popular choice in such conditions. Hope the heel is behaving.
