A shorter YY run & then watching the Vic U23 Steeple

Out to the YY this morning, 20ish degrees but sadly no sun (how is a guy suppose to work on his sun tan when the sun hides away...). Lots of juniors today (getting ready for Region & VLAA State titles in 6 weeks) and a handful of seniors, even Clare back from Hawaii last night came for a morning stroll.

Adrian already had run for 60 minutes joined us myself and Mel (& Matilda the dog) and we made our way up to the Turntable carpark, WOW my quads had f.all energy after Thu hills and yesterdays track session. We ran 12.8km with only a short toilet stop and then a drinks break at the 9km marker.

This arvo I went out to Doncaster with Burkie to watch Luke run in the Vic U23 3000m Steeple Champs, he didn't have the best race and finished 5th in 10:23, not the time he wanted and to be honest he should have finished 4th or 3rd, but when he dropped of the lead pack he just wasn't prepared to work later on and allowed himself to slow from laps of 75 to 90 for his final 2!! :(

Mmmm, 90 second laps is a bit soft, although the steeplechase has a habit of sneaking up on you. They get very hard very quickly.

Regarding Kathy, I totally agree... it's a bit of a shame she wasn't running seriously in her 20s and 30s. I'm finally fit enough to keep up with her on long warm-down runs, where her natural 'easy' pace is south of 5 minute kilometres.

hi mate, definitely agree with Ewen. I reckon the 3 km steeple - of which I have a sum total of one race's experience - is one of those events where once you drop off the pace its very hard to get back on again. still, luke is a quality athlete and he'll be back and firing in no time
